hi i am using Slackware 10.0 with a hsf rockwell modem.i got this driver working on red hat with the driver i downloaded from linmodems.org.
however it is unable to get installed in Slackware
im using a source file for the modem installations
i untar the package then as root i do the following
# make install
#hsfconfig
Where is the linux source build directory that matches your running kernel?
[/lib/modules/2.4.26/build]
ERROR: The kernel at '/lib/modules/2.4.26/build' was compiled without the following
option enabled: CONFIG_SERIAL_CORE
This option is needed for DriverLoader. Please enable this kernel
option, re-compile the kernel and try again.
the only driver I know that will work with this modem is the one made by linuxants (http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/) but you have to pay or use a 14.4k baud driver.
Btw, what's wrong with linmodem.org? If you expect their hints to work without an itch/kernel recompilation you picked up the wrong distro, Slackware will do nothing by itself (a good behavior atmo).
please do not divert the topic by comparing slack and suse
try to address the problem
Reg. the problem
You need to google a bit to look for the correct driver for 2.6 kernel
and u are getting this error, because u do not have the headers for the 2.6 kernel, which u need to see if u have that in the slack CD or if u compile a kenrel and use this driver there then u will get that headers
