Installing Mandrake 9.2 on external usb drive

I plan to install Linux Mandrake 9.2 , I do not really want to instal it alongside Windows XP. I have a 80gb external hard drive and wonder if it would be ok to instal to this. If so should I wipe it first, (it is partitioned in Windows at the moment as drive g) If I do this will Linux show this drive when I boot from my Mandrake 9.2 dvd,? Any help much appreciated, Opalnut.

I'd recommend to make 2 or more partitions on the drive, install Mandriva on the first one (make it ext2, ext3 or ReiseFS) and leave the other one for storage. Maybe make the second partition "fat" so that you can access it from windows as well.
Hope that helps!
