installing hd as slave 80gb

i stuck a new samsung 80gb as slave to a 30gb maxtor master w/slack on it. the bios detected it and so did slack. i cfdisked and partitioned it. when i rebooted, i get nothing but a blinking dash when lilo should come up. when i remove the 80gb and reset the bios, things seem back to normal. thanks for any info on what's happening here.

did you set the jumpers on the disk itself to "slave"
did you edit /etc/fstab before rebooting??

Just as a test, what happens if you put the new drive as secondary master?
