installing driver for scanner
I have SuSE Linux 8.1 (Personal edition). I also have a Plustek OpticPro 9636P parallel port scanner. The OS does not recognize it, however. I attempted to find drivers, which lead me to http://www.gjaeger.de/scanner/plustek.html So, I downloaded the module, and attempted to install it. No luck, however. I read the Instructions for Newbies, following it, and got stuck on the instructions for providing a link to the kernel sources. I can't find the kernel sources in this operating system (/usr/src). So, what should I do? According to the SANE page, it is possible for Linux to recognize this scanner, but so far it seems impossible for me to get Linux to recognize this scanner.
PS SuSE 8.1 has SANE 1.0.8 on it, which is installed on my computer.

It is entirely possible that you don't have the kernel sources installed. I once had a similar problem trying to rebuild video drivers under Mandrake 8.1. I would go to your rpm manager program (YAST 2?!?!) and do a search for the kernel sources and select them for installation.

the source
I believe that would solve my problem, JaseP, that being, "I would go to your rpm manager program (YAST 2?!?!) and do a search for the kernel sources and select them for installation." However, I haven't been able to figure out how to get "Yast2" to do this. I attempted to search for the linux kernel package via YAST2, and, I believe, I did not find the linux kernel package. Any suggests?
PS, I'm relatively new to Linux, being a former Windows user who was (and still is) determined to leave the dark side. It's been a bit more of a struggle then I anticipated, however.
