Installing driver for Canon Lide 60 with Suse

Just bought a Canon scanner model Lide 60. The version of Sane with Suse 10.0 does not include the model but an updated version (downloaded from the packman site does).

But when I try to install the driver (using yast / hardware) I get an error message:-

"failed to activate genesys"

Any ideas?

Got to /etc/sane.d/dll.conf open it with your favorite editor and add genesys to the list.

Then restart sane or reboot, and the scanner will be available.

I have an LIDE 50 and this works just fine.

Bruce - Thanks for that. It worked fine. Such a little thing to do to make it work but I would never have worked that out in a million years without your help.

Thanks again

Hi bruce,
I too have a LIDE 50, and tried to follow your advice.
I opened the Kate editor and added genesys to the /etc/sane.d/dll.conf file and it would not let me save it as it said I did not have permission.

I tried it as root and still got the same answer.

As I have not done anything like this before, where am I going wrong, how do I change permissions so I can save the alteration.

Also do I just type # genesys ?.

I did a search on this and got this thread. Tried to do as it said, used one of the editors that is with the SuSE 10,0 and I keep getting the same error over and over. It states that I don#t haave permission! or I don't have enough space. Space is not the problem....at least I think it is not a problem.

Any help....Ooo, I am a newby to SuSE.

Have you tried to use the scanner?

I ask as I get a silly error message when setting up the scanner in yast but it works fine. Just select the programme - graphics / scanner and see what happens.
