installing Dazzle cardreader

Trying to install a card reader to read/write to a memory stick. in Mandrake 9.2. Device is listed as unknown device although it is described as a USBcard reader, module not known. A thread suggested "mount -t vfat/dev/sda1/mnt/memstick" which I did but then what. As u can tell I am new to Linux. Is it possible to access cardreader on desktop like the CD drive? Also when I boot Linux freezes if the memory stick is in the reader.
