installing a sound blaster audigy on red hat 9
 

hey! guys I am really new to linux and i am having a really hard time installing my sound blaster audigy card. My card is not been detected at all can someone please help me?

which card is it from the list here?
is the driver for it loaded? ie, post the output of 'lsmod' here.
did you run 'alsaconfig'?

no the driver is not loaded, I downloaded from the alsa site it is the snd-emu10k1 and i have the files on a cd. but how do i install them? I have a sound blaster audigy card.

what files do you have on a cd?
as root, type 'modprobe snd-emu10k1' then run 'alsaconfig' then try testing your sound. if it works then run 'alsactl store' to save the settings.

hey nadroj I went ahead and typed the comands, but i got a message saying command not found.what do I do after putting my cd with all my drives on the cdrom?

did you run the commands as root?
open a terminal, type 'su', then your root password, then the modprobe and alsa commands in my previous post.

is there anyone that can help me with the sound card. I will really apreciate it.

hey I actually did type the comands as root, but they did not work, what do you think is happening?

i have the cd on the cdrom with the files on it, when i double click on the files i get a message saying package already installed. I don't know what to do next. What wuold you recommend?

when your typing the commands in your terminal and you get the output of 'command not found', can you copy and paste all of that and post it here? thanks
also can you post the output of 'lsmod' and 'lspci', run as root

hey I am doing this in two different terminals am not able to copy and paste. i am using my kvm switch.

since its just afew lines can you type out EXACTLY the prompt, command you type, and output? thanks

I typed modprobe snd-emu10k1 and i got command not found
then I typed alsaconfig and i got the same answer, I also typed lsmod and lspci with same output.

you should not get that. does the prompt have a '#' in it? try specifying the full path, such as '/sbin/modprobe snd-emu10k1'
also if you cant copy and paste, try redirecting the output of the command to a file and posting the contents of the file here. something like 'lsmod > lsmodOutput.txt' will work

yes the prompt has a #. I tried the full path and I got "Can't locate module snd-emu10k1. when i try th lsmod > lsmodOutput.txt i still get command not found.
