Installing a driver


How to install the sound driver - available in .tar.bz2.
is the directory in which installed important

You'll need to unpack the tarball first:

tar xjvf file.bz2

Check if a README or INSTALL file was included (or check the place where you obtained the file). As far as what directory, since it'll be a kernel module it will go in a "standard" place where kernel modules are found (e.g. /lib/modules/kernel version).

Yes there is INSTALL text file and it describe two methods for installing automatic and manual. I followed the same procedure but was with errors mentioned.

When extracted the zipped files there were three other zipped files one for lib and another for a driver and one for a zipped wave files. I unzipped all the files and done.
But I was not aware of the "standard place " .
