Question Installing 2nd HD

I decided to try a linux based OS. I just bought a new HD and want to install it as a secondary drive with Mandrake on it. My other HD has WinXP. Mandrake wont be in until later this week. Is it ok to go ahead and install the new HD now? I just set it as slave? Any other steps I can do while im waiting for mandrake to come in the mail?
Thanks

Just stick it in as normal.
Research that there are linux drivers for your hardware.
Prepare floppy disks or read about using your windows cd to restore the Master Boot Record.
Know that you cant write to NTFS partitions with linux yet.

I ordered the mandrake standard cds from the mandrake site. If I got this straight, I just Install the 2nd drive as normal. When I get the Cds in, just put in the cds and follow the instructions. Correct?
I just dont want a nightmare on my hands

You turn off any Plug and Play option in your bios, and set it to boot off cd.

Then during the install select a custom partition layout to make sure nothing touches the windows install. About halfway through iirc.
Lilo will probably be automatically installed in the MBR, with a windows reference. Near the end of the install.
Pick most of the Development packages to easy installing, configuring, updating and compiling (basically saves you a lot of hastle). Select the 'Pick individual packages' checkbox and spend a few mins reading about the software packages.

Dont try to use the root gui, it has been crippled so you dont even try (until you get good). Use the su to become root for admin tasks, or KDE's Run.. menu option which allows processes to be launched as root.

It's quite easy. Dont worry if you screw up and start again, after your first time it's a breeze. Have fun
