Installed ATI Driver Ok but still problems

Ok I followed the instructions on fedorafaq.org and I installed the ATI drivers on my Toshiba A70 laptop with a Radeon Mobile 9000. I run fglrxinfo and it shows me that the correct ATI drivers are being used and all seem OK. Same goes with glxinfo.
But when i try to tun glxgears or any other opengl program (even screensavers) I have total system freeze. My mouse moves but I cannot click anything and no keyboaed functions work. The only way to get out of this is to do a hard reboot with the power button.
Ive ran the fglrxconfig a few times choosing different inputs and still the same result.
Otherwise the resolution and colors on the screen are beautiful but what good is that without opengl.

Thanks for any and all help in advance.

I hate to say it but Ati sucks period for linux. Maybe one day they will build a decent driver and their support will be better but until then Ati is very buggy with linux. I was able to get ATI to run as is but running it with cedega and games forget about it. Ati makes good cards for windows but for linux nvidia is the only way to go.
