install the driver of my printer

how do I install this package I downloaded from in order to install my Printer Canon S520 ?

tell me how to start the operation in details (for Newbie please) the package is now on my desktop

Hi Go back to the download site and see if they have any install information for you. If its a rpm you would go rpm -ivh your package.rpm or if it`s a tar.gz do the following 1. tar -xvf your package.tgz 2. now go to the directory that you have unpacked and look for any readme or install text read and follow the directions. Also make sure you have updated Ghostscript installed,and of course the first thing you have to do before you try in the terminal is make sure you are ROOT because it won`t work if your not.(I wish I had money for all the times I did that!) I
