Install lilo and install cd on 2nd hard drive

My toshiba laptop's CD drive is toast, it doesn't have a floppy and can't boot from an external cd drive. and I have tried netboot with no luck. I do have an external 2.5" caddy so can write to the drive.

Does anyone know how I can write both a lilo boot partition and an linux ISO install to the hard drive via the caddy, then put it back in the laptop, boot lilo and install the linux dist? I'm thinking a unbuntu dist.

Cheers
