Unfortunely sata srives are not usable in any Redhat/Fedora/Centos/Redhat_Ent distro that I have seen. Some things you may try. Seetting the sata to a pata setting in the bios or a legacy IDE device till it is installed. Once installed sata modules do exist but not sure if they are compatiable to your sata controller. I have installed Fedora on a sata about a year ago. Ended up installing an standard IDE drive and install fedora. Once done I copied partition images with Knoppix Live CD and partimage from the IDE to the Sata. Removed the IDE and restarted. Also had to reinstall grub to MBR of sata drive. Long process. I know ubuntu has a 64 bit version but not sure if sata is available at install time. Others should know or search ubuntu site for info.
