does anyone on this forum know how to install a 3com homeconnect webcam in fedora 9? I did the google trawl before coming here but had little success - I found the same questions I was asking but alas with no useable answers.
I downloaded vicam_patch.gz but there was no readme or any instructions when unzipped. I suppose I should copy the vicam_patch to somewhere else but I don't know,
I read that recent linux distro's included built in support for the 3com homeconnect but on connecting the webcam and rebooting my machine shows no awareness of it at all. I opened aMSN and went through the audio/video wizard but it said there was no webcam connected, however my webcam is connected. I'm not sure what application I'm supposed to use to test and set-up the webcam.
I'm a newbie with linux so please go easy, simple things to the experienced I find difficult and cumbersome.

I think I've done it so I'll report what I did here for others benefit.
I logged in as root and then copied to vicam_patch file to the /dev folder. To test it I opened aMSN and in the audio/video wizard I stipulated the video device as dev/vicam_patch and to my surprise the webcam came on. I still looked as ugly as ever in the webcam image though...
