Inserting CD-ROM locks up system, Kernel 2.6.10
When I put a CD-ROM disk and close the drive my computer locks up. It was doing it almost everytime. I added the line
append = "idec-serialize" to my lilo.conf file.
I also removed some non-needed modules from the kernel as well. That seemed to have help, but it still locks up the computer occasionally when I mount the cdrom. It does not matter is I am mounting with my non-root id or with my root id. It seems like the computer locks up hard and I have to power off.
If inserting a CD does not lock up the system I am able to read it.
I am running slackware 10.1 and have installed and am running kde.3.4 and kernel 2.6.10. I think I have complied out everything not needed.
There are no errors in the logs when this happens.
My hardware is a Compaq Presario R3275US
The CD-ROM is a NEC DVD+RW ND-5100A, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
Please let me know if I need to add something else. I have googled and have not been able to come up with something that looks at this. I have found some postings about the CD-ROM not working at all, but the CD-ROM does work a lot of the times. ...until it locks up the system.
Is there something I should be looking at that I am overlooking. Or is it proper to just holler: H-E-L-P???
Thank you
-Julian
