Initializing a modem at startup (FC4)
To start this question off, I'm using Fedora Core 4 kernel 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 / KDE. I already have my US Robotics 3com hardware modem working. I use KPPP to connect to the internet.
The problem is when I tell KPPP to connect, it turns on the modem. When I (get) disconnect(ed) it turns off the modem.
In Windows, the modem starts once during startup, and ends when you shut off the PC; it stays on through disconnects and reconnects. Linux's way of handling the modem is seriously affecting it's longevity.
How do I make Linux activate my modem on startup (without connecting) and keep it on until I shut off the PC? Thanks.
