Individually working nvidia mx400 and intel ntel 82845G/GL won't work together

I need some help configuring dual monitors for my ubuntu 6.06 box. I've been dual-booting and using two monitors under windows so I decided it was time to extend the capability to my linux install.

My desktop, a dell dimension 2400, has an integrated graphics card (intel 82845G/GL) and i've added a pci graphics card (nvidia geforce 4 mx4000). I know that both graphics cards will work independently under linux; I installed the system using the integrated card and then installed the nvidia later. I originally thought it might be an error in my xorg.conf file but when I "lspci|grep -i vga" only the nvidia card comes up. I've read many how-tos for this, but for some reason I just can't seem to get it to work. I'd really appreciate some help on this. Here's my xorg.conf file...

# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

I'm having this same issue in Fedora 4 (2.6.17-1.2143). I've noticed that if I make the onboard Intel graphics controller the primary video source in my BIOS it will show up using lspci but the PCIe Nvidia card won't. The reverse is true if the Nvidia card is made the primary source. I know in xorg.conf the BusID must be defined but if the kernel never sees it during boot then I'm wondering if we are SOL.

I'll be monitoring this post for an answer.
