Incomplete/scrambled data from a BT878 Device

EDIT: The card can be fixed as follows:

I will have to experiment further to see why this should be. cat /dev/video0 drops frames though; mplayer doesn't.

I have an AverMedia AverDVD EZMaker analog video capture card (composite and svideo, not modulated TV) based on a BT878 device. Unfortunately, when I try to capture from this device, I get a scrambled picture. I believe this is because there is only about a quarter of the data being produced by /dev/video0 as should be.

The device is detected after switching it from one PCI slot to another (Motherboard: Asus P8 Z77-V Pro, from slot PCI2 to slot PCI1). Interestingly, processing UDev events now takes much longer than it did before I installed the card slot PCI1.
EDIT: Mysteriously, it is now detected in the second PCI slot.

If I run

then I see a jumbled picture. It vaguely resembles what the camera is seeing, but not well. When I examine the amount of information being produced by /dev/video0, it is around 4 MiB/s, rather than the 622080*25 bytes (About 14.8 MiB/s) it should be. The camera produces PAL video. I've searched for this problem, but have not found anyone who got scrambeld/incomplete data rather than none or working. I have had this card working in another machine (on Windows XP), so I do not believe this is a fault with the card.

I've included output from uname, lspci, dmesg, and v4l2-ctl.
