Hi everyone!
Im a big
newbie to Linux. I've been using Windows all my life, but i wanted to try something new and tought Linux sounded interesting. The first distro i tried was XoL livecd. I really liked the design, it was easy to use, and i actually detected all my hardware, sound, gfx etc. So i decided to try with a real install of Linux
.
I chosed Mandrake 10.0 because it seemed like a good newbie distro. But ive been having some troubles with it
:
1. My mandrake doesnt detect the sound
. I have a ESS PCI, and a SIS onboard.
2. I cant get BOTH my video cards to have good performance in 3D accel. I have a ATI Radeon 9600 PRO, and a GeForce 4MX. Both on AGP port of course if it matters. I first started with the ATI driver, but the Xfree86 version was different than the driver expected.
Then i tried to install the GeForce 4MX driver, and Nvidia do update Linux drivers pretty good
.
BUT, it said i "You need to shutdown your X server".
How do i do that
?
I hope you will/can help me. Sorry, but im used to Windows....i hope i one day can throw out my Windows XP cd....
