iFeel USB mouse strange behaviour
 

Hi!

I've just installed Linux for the first time and I'm having some trouble setting up my mouse. When I start X, the mouse does respond, but even a slightest movement sends the cursor all over the place. It also seems to click the buttons randomly.

The mouse is Logitech iFeel USB and my Linux distro is suse 7.3 installed with the default packages. Interestingly enough the mouse works fine in sax and it is also correctly detected in the Linux start-up sequence.

So, any ideas what might cause this? Since this is my first time using Linux, please explain as simply as possible, since I only have some basic knowledge of the system.

check your kernel and make sure that everything that has HID support is selected in the kernel, after that I've heard that it should world...however why in the world would you want to get a USB anything?...it's really a waste of money, and a pain in the butt to get it to work most of the time.
Ever heard of Serial or PS/2 mouse (which obviously work in Linux with no problems)?...they all do the same thing...just point!

You might just trying a USB to PS2 converter connector. I really think your mouse will be far more stable. I wouldn't have put it the way zLinuxz did, but I do agree with him in that using USB for something like a keyboard or mouse should be considered a no-no. A scanner or a camera is one thing, but you don't need either to run Linux. -mk

i have the same mouse and it worked perfectly out of the box with redhat 7.3, havent used your distro though so i couldn't tell you exactly whats wrong but maybe your mouse sensitivity is set too high. try to find out if suse has some kind of mouse configuration utility to adjust those settings. but redhat 7.3 works

mikek147, if you want a scanner get a Scsi scaner then...way faster and more reliable than USB...as for the camera get a camera that comes with a internal video input card, it'll be also way faster than USB. So like I said...usb sucks.

Well, I'd like to keep my USB mouse, since I'm also running Win on the same machine and would like to be able to use both OS's with the same hardware. Anyways, since the mouse works fine in sax, it can't be a hardware issue, but rather a problem with configuration.

I keep hearing about this generic USB mouse support for X. Do you know how I could enable it?

It will be a matter of recompiling your kernel. I am suprised SuSe with its "Greatest installer (not MO)" didnt detect at install. Beehive mandrake and redhat all did for me.

mouseconf or mouseconfig should let you do some configuring to your mouse, like changing the mouse to a generic usb 3 button mouse
