ICH8 audio problems after hibernate/resume on Inspiron 1420N

I've just bought a Dell Inspiron 1420N laptop (which came with Ubuntu 7.04 installed, but which I've since replaced with Fedora 7). I've worked out most of the kinks, but there's one which is a little frustrating:

After waking up from hibernating, the sound card stops working. Killing all the processes using it, removing the soundcard driver and re-modprobe-ing it fixes it, but it's a pain having to do that every time.

I was wondering if anyone else had found this, and if so if there was a way to fix it? Or if not, if anyone knew a little more than I do about the mechanics of the hibernate/resume process and how to cure quirks like that.

A little device info:

Code:

in 2018, the problem is still alive

Mint 18.2, my audio sound hangs (outing on HDMI) after resume.
to make audio working in this case, i have to change the user, and of course, i use the same user.
Code:
00:01.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Trinity HDMI Audio Controller
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. [MSI] Trinity HDMI Audio Controller
00:14.2 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] FCH Azalia Controller (rev 01)
