ICH5, SATA and Kernel 2.4.22

For first, my config: Asus P4C whit onboard Promise SATA-Raid controller... I use the Sata drive as boot drive, non in Raid config, but as a normal ide drive...

When I tried to install slack 9 whit kernel 2.4.20 the during the installation the system hang up failing to identify the hardware config... So i found on the ftp the bare.i boot disk whit the new kernel 2.4.22 supposed to support the SATA drives and ICH5 controller...

I tried whit the new one, and I get a positive identification, but during the installation the system always hang up after the hard disk identification...

Anyone whit the same problem? I'd like to try whit the new 2.6 beta kernel, but I don't know where to find a boot disk :)

Thanks for help... :)

Easiest solution is probably to set the BIOS to put the drive into compatibility mode. Then your old kernel should work fine.

If you want to use SATA mode I think you have to install or compile a more recent kernel. Your new boot disk probably does not have the necessary drivers, even if it can recognise the drive.
