IC7-MAX3 and RedHat 9

Hi there,

I've installed RedHat 9 on the following config:

Case: Antec Plus 660AMG
PSU: Antec TruePower 480W
Cooling: 4 Antec fans, CPU default heat sync and fan
Motherboard: Abit IC7-MAX3
CPU: Pentium 4 3GHz (Prescott)
Disks: 2 X 80 Gb SATA Seagate
RAM: 4 X 512 PC-3200 Generic (400MHz)

I didn't do any overclocking.

The problem is Redhat 9 freezes at different times, network gets disconnected, can't ping the box, mouse and keyboard don't respond. Did anyone have the same problem and do you know how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Other options if not Redhat9?

If I don't get any help and cannot get the above hardware working with Redhat 9 I'll probably install another linux distribution.

Would be interesting to see what people recommend (what worked for you with same/similar hardware) - suse, mandrake, freebsd? This computer will be used as a web/database server apache, php, postgresql, mysql, gd.

Although I'm used to redhat, I don't want to go back to 7.2 which does work on my machine. I want to take advantage of IC7 MAX3 features i.e. sata raid.
Thanks.

Mandrake 10.0

Ok, I'll just reply to myself again for the last time.

Installed Mandrake 10.0 and it seems to work fine.

Conclusion:
Mandrake is much better OS than redhat - friendlier interface, easier to configure, more stable, picks up all the hardware even onboard gigabit lan and last but not least does not freeze every 5 mins.
