IBM ESS Shark SAN disks, how to add without rebooting?

Does anyone know how to get Linux to see new IBM ESS Shark SAN disks that have be allocated to the server without rebooting?

Take a look at the IBM Redbook "Implementing Linux with IBM Disk Storage" at

I think Appendix A will tell you what you need to know.
