i810 chip no sound - yet another post (Red Hat 8.0)
Hey folks, sorry for yet another i810 problem. I have followed the ALSA instructions to the letter (I think), but cannot get any sound to come out of my speakers. I've downloads all the components of ALSA from their website. I'm also using Intel chip 82801DB, which Intel says is supported going from 2.5.11 on, but I do not want to play with an experimental kernel right now.
boxer# lspci
00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB AC'97 Audio (rev 01)
I'm on a Dell Dimension 4550, running the 2.4.18-26.8.0 kernel with the latest version of ALSA compiled and installed and still no go.
Here is my modules.conf:
boxer# more /etc/modules.conf
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
alias eth0 eepro100
alias eth1 tulip
alias usb-controller ehci-hcd
alias sound-slot-0 i810_audio
post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L >/dev/null 2>&1
|| :
pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S >/dev/null 2>&1 |

boxer# dmesg

When I run "cat wavfile > /dev/audio" I get nothing. And I've turned up the volume via aumix. Is there something that I'm missing?

Code:
amixer set Master 100 unmute
amixer set PCM 100 unmute
amixer set Headphone 100 unmute
ofcourse assuming you have also-utils installed

palin, that seemed to have done it! I am able to play wav files now via xmms. Thanks for your help!
It seems that I may have to add that amixer stuff into my startup scripts.
What's weird is KSCD still just hangs (KDE CD-player), but we're one step closer!

Hey everyone! I followed Palin's instructors and I can get sound to come out of my FRONT speaker jack, but not the jack on the back of the computer. I'm using a Dell OptiPlex GX260 with the Intel I810 sound system (i845 motherboard). Any ideas on how I can control that? I fell victim to the SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 sound card problem and decided to use just the integrated sound card; however, plugging in the speakers to the front is pretty annoying.
Any ideas?
