I2C to external device

Linux newbie here,

I'm interested in getting an I2C signal out of my Linux box to control some PWM chips (DS1050) Is there a simple way to do this? Where should I start?

I actually have a Totalphase adapter that converts the usb to an I2C signal but I would like to control several devices from several different Linux boxes. Therefore I would need a few of these things and they're not exactly cheap. I am looking for something that I could easiyly build myself like a few TTL chips on a PCB.

Thanks in advance for any help.

OJ
