I want to uninstall a kernel module
first and foremost thank u for this beautiful work,
I tried to install speedtouch modem driver but I failed (thanx to my noobness in linux :p), finaly I found a patch that does the work for me, and when I tried to install it it gives me this : [root@localhost speedtouchconf]# ./speedtouchconf.sh (c) Steve Parker, 17 Oct 2002 - 2005Home ********* [ steve-parker**** ]) speedtouchconf comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details type: ./speedtouchconf.sh -gpl This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions. by doing the command
/sbin/modprobe -r speedtch my pc freezes !!! I did something I pluged in my modem and rebooted linux (pressnig ESC to see what happen in the background, when it comes to detection devices it freezes and show the message : Unknown model ALC660VD/ALC861VD tring out auto-probe from bios but it passed it due to a timeout and it freezed when detection new devices pluged in I'm using mandriva and the modem work just fine in win***s |
Your modem will not work with windows unless you get help from the manufacturer - vendors like to prop it up. With linux, we are expected to do all this on our own. All this tells us is that the modem is electronically fine... which we already knew.
I notice that the driver is free software - so it should be supplied in your distro repos, may even be in the kernel already. So you check the software sources for mandriva. Your boot message, what timed out, suggests that the module is not loaded. Certainly it is not assigned to your adapter. You get that sort of message for any unidentified device - mandrivas kernel is just asking bios about it ... but bios dosn't know either. Unplug the modem, leave it unplugged then reboot. Message will go away. Module will not be loaded. Then try to run the script - if you still have a problem, tell Steve. |
