Question I/O errors when reading from SCSI CDROM.

Hey All,

Im running Advanced Server 2.1 on a DELL PowerEdge 1650, and whenever i try to read a a cd on the SCSI cdrom, i get random I/O errors. Each time a different file produces an I/O error. Sometimes i dont get any I/O errors.

Ive changed the drive, to another SCSI drive, but i still get the same I/O problems with no matter what CD i use.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Rami Ruhayel.

Hi there ...

What exactly is "Advanced server 2.1"?
What SCSI controller are you using?

You might want to post the output from dmesg
here, too, to give a bit more of an indication
about the hardware that we're looking at ...

Cheers,
Tink

Some things to check:
Software
Dual boot system i.e. works ok in windows but not linux?
Correct module being loaded for controller?

Hardware
SCSI termination on CDROM set active or last device on chain.
Cable length
What other SCSI devices are on the same controller.
