I need help with keyboard buttons (compaqeak8)
I think I posted this in the wrong thread earlier...
I've been ripping my hair out trying to figure this crap out. Someone help... I have a Compaq Easy Access Keyboard (8 key), running under PCLinuxOS. I have xorg-x11 6.8. uname -a prints: 2.6.16.27.tex1.lve #1 Mon Jul 31 15:59:12 WST 2006 i686 Pentium III (Coppermine) unknown GNU/Linux in KDE, I set the keyboard option to my keyboard. In xorg.conf, I have the proper keyboard layout (compaqeak8). I can't get khotkeys working. I don't see it on the menu, and if I type it in, nothing happens. at all. I did, however, set up lineakd (Linux Easy Access Keys Daemon) with the proper options. However, the keycodes are all over 127 in the defs file. I can fix that on my own after I map the keys though. I have a setkeycodes issue... It won't let me map anything above 127. However, I don't know which keys are being used by the keyboard... I do know that, after I sort this whole thing out, that I should put the setkeycodes in the rc.local file so that it runs automatically at startup. My problem is figuring out what to set the keycodes to. I've been doing this forever and I can't get it. I have every other piece of hardware working nearly perfectly (DRI included). Once this is done, I can get this PC shipped out to my pastor. In other words, the sooner the better! |
Have you got xev installed?
|
xev doesn't even print out blanks. and in my dmesg the infamous "use setkeycodes" message spams almost the whole output.
|
To use xev the event window has to have focus - are you sure this is the case?
Gentoo-wiki has one of the best HOWTOs for setting up multimedia keyboards I've seen: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Use_Multimedia_Keys |
I know about that already, but every time I try to set keycodes based on the ones listed there (convert to decimal, add 128, which also puts the keys in exact alignment with the lineak defs file) I get the error that the number I added was "out of range" and it's really annoying <_<
I have everything set up perfectly except for the keycodes. All of the config files for lineak, xorg.conf and the programs themselves are set up, all I need to do is get the stupid setkeycodes thing fixed. |
