I just installed Mandrake Linux but my speakers aren't working

What do I need to do to get Linux to use them.

you might need to d/l the drivers for the sound card. what kind of card do you have?

The current issue of Linux Format has a wonderful article on ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture). In the article it mentions that Linux starts out with the sound muted. I am a newbie myself, but I think you need to do a search or ask someone how to un-mute Mandrake.
