I have got a celeron box, 1.1Ghz. It runs very fast with windows XP ..But its only cr


I have got a celeron box, 1.1 Ghz. It runs very well and fast with windos XP
But it crawls with the Red-hat 9. Its too slow, specially the booting time.
Can I do anything to solve this.

You could re-build your kernel to have only what you need - that'll fix booting time. And you could use a different window manager - I assume you're using Gnome or KDE - which is more lightweight, but keep the GTK and QT libraries so you can still run Gnome/KDE apps.
Or you could install Linux from scratch (http://linuxfromscratch.org). I did that, and my booting time is approx 25s (compare with Windows 2000 which takes about 2.5 minutes) from lilo to login, and that includes the time it takes to connnect to the internet.

Also make sure your hard drive is using DMA mode transfers! This can speed up hard disk access by almost ten times.
