Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

I gave up, pls help

I can't play video (DIVX, XVID) under linux using the xv video output, not in xine and not in mplayer. I tried 2 distributions, GENTOO and Mandrake 9.1 and still the same problem.
I have EPOX 8K9a+, Sapphire radeon 9100, and XFree 4.3.
when I run mplayer (mplayer -vo xv) or Xine (xine -V xv) I just hear sound and I see dark blue color instead of the video.
XFree is loading the "XV" according to the log files, I read the mplayer documentation and xvinfo seems to be OK.
so I guess the problem is in hardware, either in the main board bios or the graphic card.
I would like to know if anybody has similar problems, or what options in bios may affect this.
the hardware acceleration seems to be OK, glxgears gives me around 2200 fps.
I don't know what else to try ....
thanks in advance

First of all: have you checked ~/.xsession-errors and
/var/log/XFree86.0.log? Any information on whether
something is failing on you?

Cheers,
Tink

You might also want to check out the mplayer-user mailing list archive...

I have problems with my xv driver (from a NeoMagic 128XD video chip on my laptop) and I combed through them a while ago...I seem to remember something similar to what you're saying. Sorry I don't have an exact link....
