i finaly switched. but huge problem.

ok so i finnaly decided to switch to linux on my laptop. would have been a big mistake if windows was on this hard drive. so i just got ubuntu installed. the live cd worked great everything worked, so i installed it and now my screen doesn't work at all, it works in other distros but i just like ubuntu because it limits me from what i can edit, i am destroyer of distros, but i can't distroy ubuntu. so if anyone knows what is going on that would be such a great help. all you people that use laptops know that if you don't have a screen you have a peice of crap. and also i installed ubuntu on my friends computer, the same modle, but his screen and everything works.

For anyone to help you, they will probably need the model of the laptop....

I just installed Kubuntu on my HP Compaq nc8000--everything works right out of the box.

Can you get to terminal mode with ctrl-alt-F1?
When booting, can you try editing the grub menu to go the single-user mode?--like so:
When the grub screen comes up, hit any key to stop the timer
Select the desired OS
type "e"
add "single" to the end of the kernel line
"b" to boot
