Howdy!

SATA is not supported in the kernel until v.2.6, just released but not yet distributed. Download the 2.6 kernel, make sure you've got the necessary support programs, e.g. make, etc, and roll your own with SATA compiled in.

Good luck

how to install the latest kernel (ver 2.6) before install the linux?? it can't even regconise where the hard disk is....

SuSE has a 2.6 kernel on their website ready to go (sort of). As root, download that kernel version and whatever other apps SuSE suggests for the purpose, create a /sys directory, and compile the new kernel with SATA support. And before you start, be sure you know which SATA chip or card you have, whether Silicon Image, Promise, 3ware, Adaptec, or .... After you have the new kernel compiled and installed, YAST will detect your SATA hard drives. At least, it should! If it doesn't, again as root, open the YAST hardware module and tell it .

Luck!
