Angry I cannot get any sound

I have installed Mandrake 9.0 and Red Hat 8.0. I cannot get any sound on either. I am also running Win 98SE and XP and they can get sound.
I installed sndconfig on both RH and Mandrake. It tried to locate and config the sound card, but it is telling me that I have an Aureal 2 (which I never knew I had) and that this is not supported. Should I just give up? I don't feel like buying a new sound card for my elderly computer. What do you all think? Or (if I were a lucky person) is there something that I'm doing wrong? Or is there a workaround this issue? I'd love to have sound on these two OSes.
Thanks in advance for your kind responses.

You need drivers for the sound card which most likely isn't loaded with RH or Mandrake.

There's a project that works on the dirvers for your type of sound card found here:

Hi trickykid!
Thanks for your info. I went to the website and downloaded the file. Now what? (I'm living up to my name again.)..I'm not at the point where I understand how to unpack a file and install it. Any help you can give with this would be appreciated. I downloaded the file to my directory "/home/me".
Could this hurt the OS making it crash or hurt the kernel?
Thanks in advance for your response.
