I cannot find my cursor in vmware, nor can I starx in Linux

Hi,
I have installed Redhat 9. First, the graphical mode works.
However, when I install the vmware tools in order to access the
graphical mode of the virtual machine, I can startx of the VM while I cannot find my cursor. And I cannot startx directly in the original Linux OS. The error is as follows:

Fatal Server Error
NO Screen found

XIO: fatal error 104 ( Connection reset to peer ) on x sever "0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with events remaining.

What should I do to fix both problem and one is also OK.
Best,
melody

Are you running Redhat 9.0 in VMware or are you running in native mode. If you are running it in its native mode, it doesn't need the VMware tools. VMware tools should be installed in the virtual machine.

Thank you.
I want to run the graphical mode in both ways. However, if they
may conflict each other, either one is OK. After I install the vmware tools, I cannot "startx" in native mode, but I can
"startx" in vm mode except for the missing of the cursor. Then I
still got the errors in native mode when I "startx" even I uninstalled the vmware tools.
