I have an ASUS A8V-VM SE Mainboard w/ onboard sound. (Realtek ALC660). VIA VT 8237A Southbridge. I am unable to record streaming audio, or any audio for that matter. Have tried so many fixes I have lost track! Downloaded Linux drivers from ASUS' site, no change. Muted/unmuted all settings in ALSA. At one point I can get a very scratchy 1 channel recording in audacity, but not usable.
I have tried various sound recorders, I don't believe they are the issue; I am leaning towards a Southbridge conflict; I know that some sound cards, the ECHO line for example, will not work with this setup. Any ideas at all what I could do to remedy this situation? Linux noob here, so I need answers in "noob speak"!
Also, when I do a test in sound preferences, under "Sound Capture", I get this error;
