Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

HW RAID5 cntrl

Hi,

I will build a mass-storage RAID5 on Fedora Core 5.

Recepie:
ASUS A8N-VM CSM
AMD Dual Core +4400
2GB memory
200GB SATA boot disk
Onboard video and sound
Onboard GB NIC

All works perfectly on Fedora 5 with no extra drivers.

I want to buy a SATAII HW RAID5 PCI/PCI-X cntrl for 4x500GB drives.
But which RAID5 controller with HW XOR engine will work?
Preferably with included driver in fedora 5.

/Roland

Assuming you are asking about true hardware raid cards and not cheap fake-raid cards, a good choice is the 3ware 9550SX-4LP: http://3ware.com/products/serial_ata2-9000.asp Typically sells for just over US$300.

The drivers are built into the 2.6.16 kernel. Drivers specific to other kernels/distros can be found here: http://www.3ware.com/kb/article.aspx?id=14546

How much easier can it get?

Hi,

This is the answer I was looking for, the ones with true HW raid XOR built I found didn't say if the driver was included or not.
And there is no support for fedora, except compiling the driver your self.

Adaptec 2420SA
Promise SX4100

I will check availibility in Sweden.

Thanks,
