hub 1-0:1-0: over-current change on port 2 PROBLEM

Hi everybody,

First of all, sorry if there is other thread related to this but I haven't be able to find it.
I have a problem installing Sarge 3.1, with kernel 2.6 in a Laptop with one USB port, and it is that after installing and rebooting the machine this message pops up continuously in the screen without the possibility of login in.

The message is:

"hub 1-0:1-0: over-current change on port 2"

Had anybody have the same problem?

Any feedback will be wellcome.

Thanks in advance.

Do you have any USB devices plugged in? If so, this message indicates one or more of them is drawing too much current.

hub 1-0:1-0: over-current change on port 2 ERROR

Hi,

Thanks for your answer.
In fact the laptop only has one hub port and I have an USB mouse connected which worked correctly with Debian, kernel 2.4.18. The problem comes now when I want to install Debian Sarge 3.1 or Gentoo.

Thanks in advance.

With a little googling it appears that this is a 2.6 kernel problem. There is a difference between how VIA and Intel chipsets does the status. There was a mention about the problem being fixed in the 2.6.4. kernel. You might want to look at the kernel logs to see if there are still problems and to see if upgrading will fix the problem.

Try removing external usb motherboard connections

I had a similar problem when booting off a linux image on a PC. After finding that the pinout to the front usb port on motherboard was wrong, I removed the cable and now the image boots ok.
