I am trying to install driver for HSP56 MR modem.
I have RH9.
The driver I am trying to install is pctel-0.9.6
I am typing ./configure -auto
or
./configure -manual
and it stops because it can't find kernel sources.
I read that it should be in /usr/src/linux
but it's not there.
How do I install kernel sources?
My kernel version is 2.4.20-6.
Also I found something like kernel-2.4.20-6.src.rmp, Is it something that I am suppose to install? What do I do with it?
I know that some people got winmodems to work.
Can you help me?
I think I installed the driver but the modem still doesn't work.
After I typed:
insmod -f pctel.o
and
insmod -f ptserial.o
it said that (both) module was loaded with warning.
Is it suppose to be like that?
Now, the KPPP can't find the modem.
/dev/modem couldn't be found.
I tried other options in 'device' tab, but nothing works. Sometimes it says 'modem is busy'.
What should I do at this point?
Is there any way to mount /dev/modem?
then you cd to the unpacked folder and then to src.
By the way, you need to have kernel-source installed.
then
./configure -auto
then you cd ../driver and you should see there 2 files
pctel.o
ptserial.o
and type
insmod -f pctel.o
then
insmod -f ptserial.o
then you can try KPPP
I assume that you have RH9 installed from original CDs, otherwise some additional steps might be necessary.
I have pretty nice document describing everything but I can't find the link now.
Let me know when you're stuck.
