HPT370 and RH8.0 ... again
hey guys, i'll try to keep it short:
i used sharkyr0lz paper to ready me a 2.4.19-ac4 kernel:
- download kernel-source,patch
- patch
- config with all HPT options "y"
- compile (in given oder of make options)
- modify initrd.img
no problems with the above steps... but also no change! my drives (in RAID1) are still recognised as /dev/hde and /dev/hdg.
Here are the messages concerning HPT displayed at startup:
HPT370A: IDE controller on PCI bus 01 dev 50
HPT370A: chipset revision 4
HPT370A: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
HPT37X: using 33MHz PCI clock
hptraid: only RAID0 is supported currently
hptraid: only RAID0 is supported currently
hptraid: only RAID0 is supported currently
Highpoint HPT370 Softwareraid driver for linux version 0.01
The next problem: RAID0 only? joke ... is it? never read about this restriction in sharky's HOWTO or any concerning thread.
Finally: If I get the kernel to work, how can i create an installation based on it?
Thanks in advance!

did i mention that i boot from a third harddisk at the onboard ide controller? anyway, the array should be in /dev/ataraid ... or not?
when does the driver use /disc0/part1 and when /d0p1?

Have you ever tried to boot from a hard disk on HPT 370/372 Raid channel, but with no raid array defined? I can't manage to do it work.
Thanks for any answer, positive or not

i configured no array in the controller bios. i could boot after a normal installation as well as with a software raid.

as far as i can say, there was no configuration necessary to get it to work with rh80.
sorry, but i can't say anything about mandrake, which might be the problem as the controller/os combination woks in my case.

Does the RH8.0 Install program contains the module for HPT 370/372? Or is it on a floppy to add during the install ?
If on a floppy, is there a distro which is known to contain this module (hpt37x2.o) in the default install?
Thanks in advance ...
