I downloaded the driver from the hpt site, and it tells me to make with the KERNELDIR option, so I make like this "make KERNELDIR=/usr/src/linux-2.4.21", when this is done the readme.txt says

1) Load module "scsi_mod" and "sd_mod" if they are not built into kernel:
# modprobe sd_mod
2) Load the driver.
# insmod ./hpt374.o

but when i run the command "modprobe sd_mod"
i get this "modprobe: Can't locate module sd_mod"

would be nice to get the old RAID thing goig, would hate to erase everything in the array

Sounds like you left SCSI out of your kernel; the hpt374 module will configure the array to appear as a SCSI device (/dev/sdX), so you do need SCSI in the kernel (or as a module).

ahh, ok, i specifically disabled SCSI when i recompiled my kernel yesterday, oh well. recompile again
