hplip and its plugins

Trying to make an hp cp1025 printer work in Ubuntu 16.04.
I got hplip-3.18.3.run from here: https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-i...nting/gethplip It takes a long time, but installs. However, there is a plugin missing. The already installed part of hplip tells me, well, please see screenshot 1 attached here. So I try to download this binary, but I get, well, please see screenshot 2. Can anyone tell me what exactly hp-plugin is trying to download and where I may get it?? I did exactly the same on my laptop and it worked fine. The only difference is, this Ubuntu is in Chinese, but I fail to see why that should stop a printer working! |
It's usually better to get and install hplip via the apt system.

Always use your package manager and distro repositories for any installation, if possible. I would uninstall and then reinstall hplip from the Ubuntu repositories with apt. Cheers. |

Tried that first, the printer would not work! That is why I tried hplip-3.18.3.run which worked on 2 other laptops.
It says it needs a binary which is not installed. I just downloaded the hplip again and 'installed' the cp1025 printer. Please see the screenshot from cups localhost:631 'requires proprietary plugin' is where the problem lies. It must be possible to get that plugin from somewhere. |
run hp-setup
|
hp-setup leads to the error: 'file does not match its checksum'. (see screenshot 2 above)
For that reason I would like to know what hp-setup is downloading and from where. What file does a printer need? Then I could get it and provide from my hd. That option is available in hp-setup. I have set up this printer using hp-setup on 2 other laptops recently without a problem, but this one is awkward, God knows why! |
