I have a HP 1250ZE laptop. In the past it has been great for running Linux, I was able to install just about every distro I tried. Recently I have had problems getting several distros to install. I tried to install Mepis 3.3 (simply Mepis will install), and Linspire 5.0 beta (Linspire 4.5 will install). I thought I would see if Xandros 3.0 would install, and it did without a problem. the problem is I cannot even boot the CDs, when I try, I get a non-emulating boot error and end up at a grub prompt.
I also cannot cannot install Suse 9.2, however the problem is a little different. I can boot the CD, but during the install it will lock, and it happens at different times.
From what I have been able to find, there appears to be a problem with the Via hard disk controller.
I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem and it there is a work around for this.
