Smile HP USB Modem D8384B - Linux Distros - Compatibility

23/07/2006

HI All

I would like to use an HP 56k USB modem under Linux
Preferable Redhat 8.0 or 9, SuSE 10, DSL, etc

I know it's a win modem and the problems associated with that fact.

I'm interested to hear if any one might have got one to work.

Under Red Hat 9 I configure the network PPP client to use the USB port
however when I activate the service I get a consistant code 7 PPP error
with no explaination.

All useful help appreciated as always

NB: Please refain from posting "get another modem" reponses please
that's not helpful. I'm genuinely interested in getting this USB modem
to work under Linux.

Cheers

Chris
