Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

HP USB Keyboard

I'm running SuSE 8.0 on a HP Pavilion and am having trouble getting my USB keyboard working. I managed to get my mouse working but I'm still having trouble with my keyboard. When I first got the system going it was shown in available hardware with a red x by it. After going threw three was to fix it, two of which didn't work mainly because the files they wanted me to edit didn't exist and on one of them they told me to type in a command that also apparently didn't exist(cat). The third one here managed to change the x to a green check but still does not seem to work. I'm currently using a PS/2 keyboard to fix things up and I noticed a strange occurrence, when I press caps lock or num lock on that keyboard the corresponding LED lights up on the USB keyboard so that means that the KB and the OS are communicating, it's just that the keys aren't registering

If needed I have what USBView (or whatever) had to say about my KB that I'll post later. I'd do it now but I forgot to copy it to my windows partition before rebooting.

Appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Aaron
