HP Scanner "Failed to start scanner: Invalid argument"

with Fedora 18, and XSane, I have an HP 3500 series deskjet

I have been scanning fine. Even scanned about 40 documents today. Stopped for lunch, came back to scan some more and I am getting this error message "Failed to start scanner: invalid argument".

didnt change anything, didnt alter anything, i have rebooted both the computer and scanner many times, unplugged, changed USB ports, and still getting the same message.

When i start Xsane, it sees the scanner. But when i go to scan a document, that darned error message returns.

The printer will print from the laptop, but for some reason, the scanner portion is not seen by the laptop.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The first thing I would do is restart my printer.

If it's a network printer, you can connect to (http:[printerIPaddress] and see if you see anything useful.

You could also look in /var/log for some logs related to scanning. I took a quick look in mine (I also have an HP) and there are a number of logs in the cups subdirectory, but I could not find one that included "sane" or "scan" in the name. There's also a /var/log/hp subdirectory, but I found nothing related to scanning in the files there.
