Hp scanjet 3500c

I have an hp scanjet 3500c scanner, I run Mandrake 9.1 and have had a few minor problems getting all my devices working, but all in all it was relatively painless, thanks to all the information out there from other users who have "been there-done that" such as those on this forum. I use a dual boot system- Win2k/Mandrake 9.1- which works perfectly for my needs. I could be windows free at any point, IF I could get my scanner to work.( as a side note I find myself using windows less and less, I do enjoy the KDE environment and coming from a UNIX background I just find Linux much more suited to my tastes, even if it does take some tweaking and head scratching.) I have read that if one wants to get a scanner working, then an Epson brand is likely the way to go. However, looking on the Mandrake site and checking the list of supported hardware I do see that my scanner has been "reported" to work by someone, even though when I try to install it it says that this model is not supported. I can of course use the scanner with the windows application, no big deal to switch over and scan, then switch back to linux and manipulate my photos, documents as I like. But, my question is...Has anyone on this forum ever made this particular model work? I have done a good bit of searching and as of yet havent ran across anyone who has, I would love to hear from someone who has done this. Thanks for any help available, and thanks to all who contribute to this forum.
