hp printer usb do not print

(newbie) HI! :)

I have a HP LaserJet 1300 with USB connection and I use Debian SARGE. I connect my printer and it appear in usbview, then I type lsmod and appear the following modules:

lp
usblp
usbcore
usbhid

and /dev/usb/lp0 exists. Then i use CUPS to install my printer with the web interface. Finally when I try to print a test page my printer do not print anything and a message appear:

Unable to send print file to printer: No such device"
Device URI: usb:/dev/usb/lp0

Then I type in the console echo "hello">>/dev/usb/lp0 and the printer wait 5 minutes but finally prints.

Do you have any idea about my problem??

Thanks for your time.
Have a nice day

HI maroonbaboon!

thanks!.

Debian v Knoppix? - it's not an either/or. Knoppix is a live CD - it runs directly from CD without any HD install process. But it can be copied to the HD and then becomes a fairly standard Debian installation. The Knoppix concept has really taken off and there are many variations and clever tricks for using it (see e.g. www.knoppix.net). If you can get a copy there is nothing to lose by trying it out.
