HP Printer Trouble

I have had trouble getting my printer working - and now it does work - but it takes forever to start in the first place, and then pauses 5 seconds each line and sometimes never finishes the job.

I have CUPS installed and I added a new printer LPT#1 using the HP-DeskJet_842C-hpijs.ppd file. I have a DeskJet 842C.

Does anyone have any suggestions to get a printer working correctly?

After re-installing and trying different settings, I am still unable to get my printer to function correctly. The printer works - it just is very slow. Is there some settings or something I can adjust that might reconcile this problem?

Thanks for any help.

Is the HP 842C a Windows printer ? My HP 820Cse through a bi-directional parallel cable was strictly for Windows and did not work with Linux. I'm now using a very inexpensive HP 3740 through a 2.0 USB port and it works great with Mandriva 2006.
